PRETTY GOOD FRIENDS
Pretty Good Friends is a Brooklyn-based comedy show produced and curated by long-time collaborators Eugene Mirman and Julie Smith. The show is an intimate evening of innovative standup comedy and polished chaos that sometimes includes short films or music, and the occasional pig roast.
The show was named "New York's Best Indie Comedy Night" by
New York magazine, who called it "The best mix of format and talent for a comedy show...screwball stand-up, stories, skits, and short films."
Pretty Good Friends' roots are as a weekly show in the basement of a music club in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Since its start in 2006, Pretty Good Friends has become a celebrated New York comedy mainstay and it continues to evolve into larger-scale performances at bigger music venues. The weekly show is a favorite in New York's closely-knit comedy world and has spawned the world's first sincere-and-ironic comedy festival, aptly named the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival.
Past performers include: David Cross, John Oliver, Kristen Schaal, Sarah Silverman, Michael Showalter, Jim Gaffigan, John Hodgman, Aziz Ansari, Demetri Martin, Mike Birbiglia, Marc Maron, Todd Barry, Jon Glaser, Peter Bjorn & Jon, Yo La Tengo, Blitzen Trapper, and John Oates.
What people have said about Pretty Good Friends and the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival:
"It's incredibly personal...and really in the spirit of the whole alternative comedy scene, which is playful and informal and creative." —
New York Times
"This is always a great way to see some of the best comics in the world be funny and have a blast in a laid back atmosphere." —
Punchline Magazine
"The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival is what would have happened if Willy Wonka had gone into Comedy Festival curating rather than chocolatiering. But with much, much more swearing." — John Oliver
"The EMCF is a celebration of all things comedy and all things that make fun of the industry of comedy. Possibly the most fun event in all of comedy. It's like an ice cream flavored ice cream cone with a chocolate cake aftertaste." — Mike Birbiglia
